District Leadership
District Leadership in Liberia
Liberia’s districts form the backbone of local governance. There are Administrative districts and Electoral districts. Each district is led by a District Commissioner appointed to represent the central government at the grassroots level and the elected District Representative who represent single-member districts nationally at Parliament or the House of Representatives.
In Liberia’s district governance structure, the District Commissioner and the District Representative to Parliament play distinct but complementary roles in administration and legislation.
