Created in 1985, Rivercess  County, located in Liberia, is a first-level administrative division with its capital Cestos.

Background and Introduction


Spanning 5,592 square kilometers (km²), Rivercess  is situated in south central Liberia. It is bounded by Grand Bassa County to the west, Nimba County on the northeast, and Sinoe County to the southeast, while the southern part lies on the Atlantic Ocean.

There are 2 Electoral Districts (ED) 1, and 2; and 8 Administrative Districts (Doedain, Fen River, Norwein, Central Rivercess, Beawor, Sam Gbalor, Jo River and Zarflahn), comprising 17 Chiefdom and 35 Clans. County leadership is headed by a superintendent, while districts, townships, and boroughs are governed by representatives and senators, commissioners, and governors respectively. The flag of Rivercess represents its coastal location, agriculture, rich vegetation endowment and the natural resources of the county and the hope it gives to its people.

Technical Description

The flag includes a blue background, with a yellow sun to the right on a white background, and a coconut tree to the left of the sun with the Liberian flag in the canton and the county emblem on the field.

Design Elements and Symbolism

Blue Background – Represents the sea and the coastal location of the county and the Cestos River being a very important part of the history of Rivercess.
Yellow Sun – Depicts a new day, energy, or hope, often associated with the bright climate and, in some contexts, the dawn of development. Timber resources.
Coconut Tree – Depicts timber, the dense vegetation and rich agricultural resources of the county.
Liberian Flag Canton – National unity.
